I am a SUPER DTP PhD marine biology student at the University of Aberdeen. I returned to study late in life having spent over 20 years in industry where I achieved a PG Dip and MA in marketing and was fortunate to win the SD Southern scholarship to study at the Richard Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario. I studied on the Royal Biological Society approved integrated MBIOL course at Aberystwyth University, focussing my final UG and MA year on exploring the abiotic impacts on the production of carbohydrates in kelp. I completed my degree with a first class honours.

Project: The significance of macroalgal detritus for marine food webs and blue carbon sequestration’. The study has a focus on the food web and MA sequestration in temperate fjords with research taking place on a number of Scottish Lochs on the west coast.
