Bill Turrell

Marine Scotland

After completing physics degrees at Nottingham University and Imperial College, Bill gained his PhD from the School of Ocean Science, Menai Bridge studying estuarine fronts under Prof John Simpson. He joined the Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen in 1986 and spent 16 years researching the physical oceanography of Scottish seas. He then moved into senior management, and was responsible for marine ecosystems (2003-2006), fisheries science (2004-2011) and currently environmental science.


Project: Bill’s personal research currently focusses on marine plastics, invasive species and science to support policy in the climate emergency.
